Droll Pranks on the front page of Tumblr!

Very excited to announce that Droll Pranks for Rich Boys won “The Great Tumblr Book Search, the Sequel,” and Chronicle Books will be publishing it in Fall 2015. Thanks, everybody!

chroniclebooks:

Attention, funny people of the interwebz, we have an exciting announcement to make. We’ve selected the winners of The Great Tumblr Book Search, the Sequel and we can’t wait to tell you about them! Droll_announce Grand-Prize Winner:  Droll Pranks for Rich Boys: The Wealthy Young Gentleman’s Guide to Horseplay by Dan Bulla

Dan has won $500 of Chronicle books and a feedback session with our editors. We’re also very excited to announce that Chronicle Books will be publishing Droll Pranks for Rich Boys as a curated compendium of capers for the refined prankster in Fall 2015. Congratulations, old chap!

About the Author: Dan Bulla is a writer, comedian, and improviser living in Los Angeles. He is a recent transplant from Chicago, where he trained at the Second City and iO Theater, and performed with the award-winning sketch group Warm Milk and the improv team Pants Dot Com. Droll Pranks has been featured in the Huffington Post and was named one of the best Tumblrs of 2012 by Buzzfeed.

In addition to the grand-prize winner, we selected three runners-up. Each received $100 of Chronicle books and the opportunity to work with our editors to refine their book ideas.

HTS rev Runner-Up: How to Success: Write Normal, Accept Awards, and Other by Corinne Caputo

In addition to her prize, Corinne and our editors have struck a deal to create a humor book for writers based on the blog material, which we’re excited to announce that we’ll also be publishing in fall 2015. Until then (We’re publishing as fast as we can!) struggling writers can find stencils for successful paragraph shapes and more almost useful advice on her Tumblr.

About the Author: Corinne is a recent college grad, writer, and comedian living in New York City. Everyone is always asking me, “Corinne, how do I write normal?” or “Corinne don’t you have to be somewhere?” or “Corinne, are you the one who spilled coffee all over the bathroom?” In How To Success: Write Normal, Accept Awards and Other, I will answer some of these questions with advice and activities on how to succeed as a writer.

Adorable Runner-Up: Well That’s Adorable by Sarah Claspell

Sarah’s enthusiasm for all things adorable is infectious and reads like a hilarious love letter to the cutest things the Internet has to offer.

About the Author: Sarah is an actor and comedian living in Los Angeles. She regularly performs sketch and improv comedy at the Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre as well as in other venues around the city. In between performing, auditioning, and brunching, Sarah obsesses over all things cute. She decided to start Well That’s Adorable after a friend told her that just saving cute pictures to a folder on her desktop to open and squeal about later was weird. She has two tuxedo cats named Pizza and Thomas Jefferson.

The Printed Internet Runner-Up: The Printed Internet by Daniel Kolitz

Since he started the blog early last year, Daniel’s witty cut-and-paste satire of Internet culture and content has been a hilarious, shareable Web outpost and commentary.

About the Author: Daniel Kolitz is a writer living in Brooklyn. His work has appeared on New York Press, The Toast, Animal New York, and elsewhere. His Tumblr, the Printed Internet, has been featured on Newsweek, The Awl, Flavorwire, The Millions, and more. A film based on a Tumblr post he wrote is currently in development at Honig Studios in Berlin.

Congratulations to all our winners! There were so many funny entries that it was very difficult to choose—a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to submit. Tune in next year for The Great Tumblr Book Search Episode Three: The Third One!

Two former junkies singin’ praises — with Lily Sullivan.

Jason Heidemann also gave a nice shout-out to my old web series with Jasbir Singh, “He’s a Great Book! with Ozzie Guillen.”

Jason Heidemann at Timeout Chicago had some kind words about my “Fiscal” Cliff web series. This is the last of the “Fiscal” Cliff Thompson videos: “Hacked!”

Other “Fiscal” Cliff Videos:

Old Money: don’t let your money get old!

Spending: sometimes you gotta spend money to save money

Coins: don’t flip your coins in the air, a bird’s gonna get it!

Pennies: don’t keep pennies in your pocket, you idiot

Opens tonight! If you’re in Chicago, don’t miss it.

In May 2012, I launched the Tumblr blog "1,001 Droll Pranks for Rich Boys — The Wealthy Young Gentleman’s Guide to Horseplay," as well as a companion Twitter account.

The blog was featured in Buzzfeed and The Huffington Post. At the end of the year, Buzzfeed named it one of the 54 Best Tumblrs in 2012.

When Ozzie was let go by the White Sox, Jasbir and I put together the final “He’s a Great Book — with Ozzie Guillen” video, and shot a lot of the cutaways at U.S. Cellular Field.
